Magnolia Ruth Barnes, aged 77, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, May 08, 2018 after a long illness.
She was born, June 6, 1940 in Kyle, WV, to Ruthie (Bryson) and James “Jimmie” Barnes and spent the greatest portion of her life in Charleston, WV. Ruth, as she was known to her friends and family, attended Garnet High School, graduated from Stonewall Jackson High and attended West Virginia State College. “Maggie” as she was known to her colleagues, retired from Monsanto Company after 25 years of service.
Ruth was passionate about education, a believer in knowledge and strength. A lover of books and of animals, she had plenty of both. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was eclectic and appreciated the arts. She was complicated, private, and fiercely independent, and she was loved.
She is survived by many who loved her – her daughters: Stephanie Holland and Celeste Niday both of whom share her love of books and animals; son in-law: Matthew; niece, L’Tanya Hancock-Howard and family, who all tirelessly took loving care of Ruth during her later years; nephew: William Hancock Jr.; sister: Alfreda Hancock. She is preceded in death by many beloved pets, who were loyal and loving companions.
No service will be held, however, her daughters encourage family, friends and those who knew her and loved her, to remember her for the Magnolia, Ruth, Maggie, Mom, Aunt and sister that they will dearly miss.
The Barnes family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Highway 54 West, Fayetteville. Messages of condolence may be left atwww.GeorgiaCremation.com.
