Hollis Gaiters was born on March 10, 1943 in Bronwood, Georgia, the son of Essick Gaiters, Sr. and Rosie Lee (Bell) Gaiters. He attended Terrell County schools. In 1960 at the age of 17, Hollis moved to Newark, New Jersey to live with his oldest sister. He later returned to Georgia, and in 1965, he met and married Lillie Mae Brown. From this union, three children were born: Jacquelyn Deniece (Ronald) Gaiters-Jordan, Kimberley Suress (Frederick) Gaiters-White, and Christopher Bernard (Danyal) Gaiters.
No stranger to hard work, Hollis worked for over 30 years at Dawson Manufacturing Company where he was affectionally known as “Gator” among his circle of friends. In addition to his many years of dedication as a press operator, Hollis was also a gifted craftsman with numerous skills including brick masonry, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening. He was well known for having a yard filled with beautiful plants and flowers.
While in New Jersey, his friendly and outgoing personality lead him to befriend a young man who introduced him to the teachings of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, which Hollis eagerly studied and received. He was baptized as a servant of Jehovah in 1963. Through the journey of life, Hollis gradually slowed up in his activities with his friends and spiritual family and was inactive in spiritual activities for a number of years. However, in his later years, he re-dedicated his life to Jehovah, and was active in studies until his declining health prevented his participation.
Hollis was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Essick Gaiters, Jr., and sisters Precious Lee Anderson, Josephine Williams, and Henrietta Williams. He leaves to mourn his loving brothers and sisters, Mary Deloris Craddock, Leroy (Joyce) Gaiters, Rosemary Cook, Larry Gaiters, Lenora Brown. He also leaves his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Hollis will forever be remembered for his love of people and his generosity. He was the type of man who would give you the “shirt off his back”. In honor of his generous nature, in lieu of flowers, please donate to efforts in your local area supporting medical personnel, first responders, and organizations assisting those impacted by the current crisis. Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings, a memorial will be scheduled on a future date when family and friends will be invited to celebrate his life.

Uncle Hollis you was more like a second dad to me than my uncle growing up you was always there for me no matter what. You was truely one of a kind and that will NEVER and can NEVER be replaced. And, I love the relationship you and my baby had she love her some uncle Hollis, not a day went by she didn’t ask to go see you I just really wished she could’ve had more time with you. This is such a time to realize how short life is. Even though it has been months since I last seen uncle Hollis but yet it seems like it was just yesterday. Oh how I wish my time spent with him could have been more. He was so great at encouraging me to be better and he didn’t have a problem complimenting me when he would see or hear that I did something well, and I am forever grateful for that.
