Jon Frederick Kincaid, 57, of Duluth, GA, passed away on January 5, 2022, after a period of declining health.
Jon was born in Charlotte, NC on April 20, 1964, five months after the death of President John F. Kennedy. His sister Tammy named him and picked the name Jon (no “h”) after her paternal grandmother’s brother who happened to stop by when she was staying with her grandmother, Ruth Kincaid, in Salisbury, NC while Jon was born. So, his parents chose the middle name Frederick and Jon became the next JFK.
Jon grew up in the Dunwoody/Doraville area after the family moved to the Atlanta area when Jon was 4 months old. Jon was diagnosed with cancer when he was 10 months old and survived; the diagnosis did not slow him down. He played little league baseball and football and excelled academically in the classroom and graduated from Peachtree High School in Dunwoody, GA.
He also developed a love of music at a young age so his sister took him to concerts and record stores until he could drive himself. He and his buddies would go visit college radio stations and hang out to get to know how things worked. Jon attended Georgia Tech and soon became a fixture at WREK, the student radio station. He was program director and DJ and worked to teach other students. He loved his program “Personality Crisis” on Sunday nights at 10 AM so much that he continued after he graduated and for almost 35 years.
Jon got to know many musicians locally and nationally and often featured them on his show. While a student, he said he chose a certain dorm at Georgia Tech so he could walk the tunnel and venture down to the 688 Club to see shows. Besides music, Jon loved all sports including watching Georgia Tech, Auburn, and the Atlanta Braves.
Jon is survived by his sister, Tammy Kincaid Foley; his niece, Bethany Foley; nephew, Brian Foley; and brother in law; Tom Foley, all of Peachtree Corners, GA.
Jon was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Kincaid; father, Herman Kincaid; grandparents, aunts and uncles.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1 PM at the Berkeley Lake Chapel, 4042 South Berkeley Lake Road, Berkeley Lake, GA.
Jon was also a lover of animals and dogs in particular. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Furkids, Georgia’s largest no kill animal shelter and pet adoption. Furkids, Inc., 4015 Holcomb Bridge Road, Suite 390, Peachtree Corners, AG 30092.
