William Alan Massey died Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the Columbus Hospice house after suffering a severe stroke on June 5, 2023. He was the son of William O. Massey and Dorothy Murdock Massey, born on September 11 of 1957. He met his wife-to-be Carmen Milagros Aviles, at the Baptist Student Union at Columbus College and married on January 22, 1982. His parents predeceased him, as well as his twin brothers, Seve and Stan Massey. Alan is survived by his son William Emilio Marcus Massey, his sister Myra Massey Converse, brother in law J. Thomas Converse, and his niece Emma V. Converse, all of Columbus, as well as numerous cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held for him and his wife Carmen at Morningside Baptist Church on July 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
His family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors of Piedmont Regional Midtown for their around-the-clock care of Alan during his time in the ICU before his transfer to Columbus Hospice. Even though his time there was short, the staff took good care of him and were understanding and very kind to the family after his death. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Alan’s memory made to Columbus Hospice or Morningside Baptist Church.
Georgia Cremation of Columbus, Georgia is assisting the family.

Marc and family. Alan and I were classmates at Johnson Elementary thru Jordan High School. Spent a lot of times together and have so many memories and good times. Fifth grade Alan and I were given the role of the patriots who dress up like Indians and dumped tea into Boston harbor. We were supposed to just walk out and stand in place as the narrator told of our role in history. Not good enough for Alan and me. We ask and were given permission to dump leaves off the stage to make it look more realistic. Did not mind staying after the play to clean up since it got us out of class for a while. Alan would come over and play basketball and we would also go to the woods outside of Columbus and kind of hunt and just walk and enjoy being out in nature. Previous family gathering will keep me from the memorial. Truly sadden by your loss and share everyone thoughts, prayers and memories of your mother and father.
