Life of Gary Edwin Hylton
Born: November 9th, 1951, Columbus, Ohio
First of three siblings to Ralph E and Ada R Hylton.
Survived by his wife, Alma Sorrell Hylton; siblings, Marlene K. Hylton Chardeen (husband Dennis); Lisa A Hylton Daugherty (husband Pat); niece, Caylee; son, Justin Hylton; and two granddaughters, Daniella Hylton-Vaquera and Audrey Hylton-Vaquerq Salinas.
Gary enjoyed many diverse hobbies:
As a boy, Gary played Little League baseball and was a Cub scout. He and his dad loved auto racing and together they attended many on-site drag races (mostly slot car). They also built and raced Go Carts which was a regular weekend hobby and earned Gary many “trophies” which he proudly coveted.
During summer vacation, he often spent time on his Grandparents’ farm helping harvest their tobacco crops (not something he particularly enjoyed) but enabled him to be close to his beloved grandparents; Hattie and Reid Hylton, whom he loved and admired.
But if one were to ask Gary about his true passion in life? He would have to say, “Music”. As a young teen, he taught himself the guitar and started his own band, “Strange Brew”. These were fun times, along with the “Magic Bus” (a Volkswagen bus) which was to transport their equipment and themselves to play at local events. They played all the latest rock music at local events; teen night at the public pool, local fairs, skating rings, and town hall (which hosted dances every weekend). His younger sister, Marlene, would be their first “groupie” as she attended as often as possible to watch them perform and dance while they performed, even his dad would be there!
Later, his Uncle Larry would introduce him to the sport of “Archery”, which Gary embraced with intense enthusiasm where he spent most of his spare time engaging in the sport. He also bought his son, Justin, a bow and taught him the craft as well, which enabled them to spend many hours together bonding.
Gary lived and worked as an electrician in different states through the years, but, ultimately retired with his wife, Alma, to Georgia which they called home.
During his retirement, Gary enjoyed doing home improvement projects and relaxing around a campfire listening to music. He even acquired a new hobby of learning to cook while trying new recipes. He loved and enjoyed his dogs, Chance, Koko, and Lucky, whom he referred to as the “kids”.
May the love of Christ be with him so that he “Rest in Peace”.
