Delpha M. Burks 76 of Griffin, Ga and formerly of Fine, NY; and Evans Mills, NY passed away in Hospice Care at Eternal Hope Hospice of Griffin on 11/05/2024 surrounded by her family and Hospice care givers after a lengthy battle with COPD, CHF, and V-Fib.
Mrs. Burks was born on September 6th, 1948, in Potsdam, NY. She lived in Fine, NY until she met her Husband John W. Burks while working on Fort Drum. NY as a maid. They married on April 10th, 1971, and had a son Marcus J. Burks. They moved to Evans Mills, NY in 1972 and then to Griffin, Ga, where Mr. Burks is from, in 2005.
Mrs. Burks graduated from Clifton-Fine High School. Mrs. Burks was a member of The Fine Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, The Evans Mills Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, The Evans Mills Volunteer Ambulance Squad Auxiliary, The Evans Mills Crafty Ladies Craft Club, and The Friends of Evans Mills for many years.
Mrs. Burks loved going to yard sales, doing all kinds of crafts, reading, and coloring.
Mrs. Burks is survived by her husband of 53 years John W. Burks (Griffin, Ga), her son Marcus J. Burks (Griffin, Ga), her foster sister Robin Clarke Stone (Warsaw, Indiana), her foster sister Lorelei Woelfel Woods (Lakeland, Florida), her Sister-In-Law Patricia + Richard Holder (Griffin, Ga), Her Sister-In Law Patsy + Dr. Jeff Clarke (Meansville, Ga), her Sister-In-Law Vicki + Robert Smith (Griffin, Ga), her Sister-In-Law Mary Jane Krenek (Griffin, Ga), her Brother-In-Law William and Betty Baggley (Cochran, Ga), and several cousins, nieces, + nephews. Mrs Burks had three Step-Grand Daughters (Ophelia, Balerie Rose, and Brittani) and a Step-Great Granddaughter (Isabella Rose) and a Step-Great Grandson from her son’s previous marriage.
Mrs. Burks’ parents (Herbert and Madeene Dafoe), her Brother and Sister-In-Law (Irving + Patricia Dafoe), Her Mother-In-Law (Grace Burks-Baggley), Father In-Law Alvin Burks, Stepfather In-Law Gene Baggley, and Brother-In-Laws (Johnny Burks, Alvin Burks Jr, and Larry Baggley), and Sister-In-Laws Shirley Morgan, Peggy McCard, and Barbara Baggley) all passed away before her.
There will be no calling hours or funeral at Mrs. Burks’ request. She asks that people remember her how she was. She will be cremated and her ashes spread by her family at a later date.
