October 19,1941 – January 7, 2025
With sorrow we announce the passing of our family’s matriarch, Janice Olds. As it was in life, she was surrounded by her family at Columbus Hospice when she entered heaven. Janice was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, sister, and so many other things to so many. Most importantly she was a child of God, and we know that her home is with him, and that she was reunited with her 3 beautiful babies, her daddy, and those she loved.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” -2 Timothy 4:7
Janice was preceded in death by her daddy, Junior Henry Adkinson (Pop), her mother Elizabeth Hardage (Nanny), her son Jeff Mitchell, her daughter Terry Pender, her son Hank Mitchell, her brother Chris Adkinson, and her granddaughter Amber Hill. Oh, what a reunion this must have been.
Janice had a lifelong love of making things. She spent many years as a seamstress in sew shops from Georgia to North Carolina and Germany. In her grandchildren’s early years, she was known for sewing dresses, outfits, and anything she could create. We all wore and used everything her talented and loving hands made with pride. She was also known for her ability to cook and bake, and she loved doing it. Everything she created was so good, no doubt because there was so much love behind the things she made. She loved her family fiercely and is the cornerstone of who we are.
She is survived by her daughter Tammie Medley (Jerry), son Jamie Hill (Mallory), son Tommy Hill (Pam), sister Linda Hill, sister Bobby Homes, brother Lewis Adkinson, brother Buddy Adkinson, daughters in love Jennifer Mitchell and Cindy Mitchell, 18 adoring grandchildren, 21 adoring great-grandchildren, 2 beautiful great-great grandchildren, numerous loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and many others.
We will celebrate her beautiful life on Tuesday, January 14th at 11:00 am EST. Services will be held at Ladonia Baptist Church 3789 US Highway 80 W, Phenix City, AL 36870. Flowers or arrangements can be sent to Ladonia Baptist Church.
Georgia Cremation – Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.
