Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Sr.; her parents, James and Ida Bell Screws; and six brothers, James Jr., Willie, Robert, Sammie Lee, Clarence and Larry Screws, as well as one sister, Essie Baker.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving family, two daughters, Janet Salome (Ira Glenn) Miller and Tammy Annette Brown, one son, Tommy (Thelma) Epps, Jr.; three grandchildren, Brittnie Sheree (Jamel) Levatt, Courtnie Atkins and Justin Brown; two great granddaughters, Journee Simone and Chloe Danielle Atkins; two sisters, Joann Johnson, Mary Ann (Samuel) Curtis; one brother, Johnny (Mary Lee) Screws; one sister-in-law, Betty Pearl (William) Alexander; brother-in-law, Robert Thomas Baker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and beloved spiritual family.

Stella was a devoted wife, loving mother, generous sister, grandmother, friend and above all, a loyal servant of Jehovah God. She had a gentle spirit and a giving heart that touched everyone she met. She was known for her warm smile, her faith in Jehovah and her willingness to help others in need. Stella enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, spending time with loved ones and sharing laughter around the table. Her home was always filled with love, kindness and the comforting aroma of her delicious home-cooked meals.

Stella learned to sew from her mother-in-law after she married Tommie in 1960; 64 years ago. Stella retired in 1994; 31 years ago, from Neil’s Sports Shop, where she outfitted local sports teams in colorful uniforms. She continued to sew and do alterations for friends and family.

Stella regularly quoted the words of Psalm 90:10: “The span of our life is 70 years, or 80 if one is especially strong. But they are filled with trouble and sorrow; they quickly pass by and away we fly.”
