Mirl R. Godwin (October 22, 1940 – November 13, 2025)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mirl Godwin, who died peacefully at home on November 13, 2025, at the age of 85.  She was a long-time resident of Phenix City, AL. Mirl was born on October 22, 1940.

A kind and generous soul, Mirl was cherished by all who knew her. Mirl showed her love by cooking for others and had a special gift for making people feel welcome and loved. Her warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on many lives.

Mirl was known for a strong work ethic and dedication to family. Mirl will be remembered as a kind-hearted woman whose warmth and quiet strength left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Mirl is survived by immediate family members and a large network of relatives and friends who will cherish her memory. Her son – James Lawrence, grandchildren – Jana BeBeau (Jerry) and Chase Lawrence (Yadrianiss), great grandchildren – Jeremiah BeBeau, Isabella Lawrence, Carson Lawrence, Amelia Lawrence, and significant other Bobby Flynn. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Lilly Mae Rugg, little brother EJ Rugg, and husband Robert E. Godwin.

A private family service will be held on November 24, 2025, at the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.

Mirl’s spirit and memory will live on in the hearts of her friends and family who were blessed to love and be loved by her.
