Curtis Lawton Sexton

Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Curtis Lawton Sexton, a man of quiet strength, unyielding work ethic, and precision that defined both his craft and his character, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, at the age of 81. Surrounded by his daughters, Wendee and Stacy, who held his hands and serenaded him with off-key renditions of his favorite songs, he departed this world as he lived it—wrapped in love, simplicity, and the warmth of family.

Born at home in Tucker, Georgia, on January 12, 1944, Curtis grew up with a hands-on spirit that led him from cabinet making to becoming a master carpenter and framer. His career was marked by meticulous skill and an unwavering commitment to quality, retiring in 1996 after decades of building not just structures, but lasting legacies through his dedication.

For the last 27 years, he made his home with his daughter Stacy in Powder Springs, where he embraced the role of “super PopPop,” showering his grandchildren with stories, guidance, and that signature dry wit that turned everyday moments into treasures. Together with Stacy, he tackled countless home projects, from renovations to custom builds, blending his expert craftsmanship with their shared creativity to transform their space into a true family haven

Curtis found joy in life’s simple pleasures—a well-timed joke and music that stirred his soul, including cherished nights at Chris Isaak concerts with Wendee, where they’d sing along with gleeful abandon. His gentle nature and profound love for his family left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

He joins in heaven his son, Brian Sexton (January 10, 2014); his grandson, Caleb Sexton (August 8, 2016); his sisters, Frances and Rachel; and his brother, David. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Wendee Sexton and Stacy Sexton; his son, Brandt Sexton; and his adored grandchildren, Austin, Baylee, Jackson, and his wife Alina, Hala and her fiancé Jackson Roberts, Emma, Crystal and her fiancé Brandon Braun, and Jesse. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his great-grandchild, Coleson, expected in March from his granddaughter, Crystal.

In lieu of a traditional service, the family invites friends and loved ones to a celebration of Curtis’s life at Stacy’s home in Powder Springs on Saturday, December 13, 2025. The gathering will be open all day for visitors to drop by, share stories, and enjoy some of PopPop’s favorite foods. For directions or more information, please contact Wendee or Stacy.

Instead of flowers, please consider bringing a plant, such as a gardenia, that can be planted in the yards to grow in his memory—a living tribute to a man who built and nurtured with his hands.

Though he’s gone, Curtis’s spirit—gentle, humorous, and deeply loving—lives on in every shared laugh, off-key song, and blooming garden.
