Jasmine Michele Sherman, lovingly known as “Jassie” entered eternal rest on February 3, 2026 at the age of 22. She was born March 26, 2003 to Schantalyn Dickens and Brandon Sherman in Metairie, Louisiana.
Jasmine was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her. Her kind heart, strong spirit, beautiful smile, unwavering faith and and joyful humor made her unforgettable. Though she was challenged with Cerebral Palsy from birth, Jasmine faced life with extraordinary courage and grace. She valiantly fought her illnesses and proudly graduated from Chapel Hill High School in December 2024 – a testament to her perseverance and strength.
Jasmine’s favorite color was purple, and she delighted in listening to “Single Ladies” by Beyonce and watching her favorite movie, “The Princess and the Frog”. She found joy in tasting new foods, going on field trips , attending church, traveling, listening to music and spending precious time with her family. No matter the day or circumstance, Jasmine greeted life with a bright smile and a contagious laugh that lifted everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Gayle Sherman and Branchie Thornton.
Jasmine leaves to cherish her precious memories, her parents: Schantalyn & James Dickens and Brandon & Shermeia Sherman; Grandparents Arnold & Cheryl Jackson; Siblings Kashi, Ansley, Destiny, Noja, Jasmine, Jikean, Jasmine and Dede; Niece Alaura; six uncles, seven aunts, many cousins, devoted teachers and a host of loving family members and friends.
Though her time with us was far too short, Jasmine’s impact was profound. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace – resting in eternal love.
“Mama, I don’t have time for dancin’, That’s just gonna have to wait awhile
Ain’t got time for messin’ around, and it’s not my style
This old town can slow you down, people takin’ the easy way
But I know exactly where I’m goin’, I’m gettin’ closer and closer every day
… and I’m almost there, I’m almost there ..
People down here think I’m crazy, but I don’t care
Trials and tribulations, I’ve had my share
There ain’t nothin’ gonna stop me now, ’cause I’m almost there”
Jasmine’s testimony was sung thru her favorite song “Almost There” by Princess Tiana. As the days go by, these words will begin to take on a new meaning for all who was honored to know her.

Brandon Sherman says
My Sweet Jasmine
At first I wondered why would God give us such a unique and beautiful baby girl. The world told us to call her disabled, differently abled or special needs. God told us to call her a Princess; an angel in human form who came to teach us lessons on how to love, how to care, and how to communicate on a higher level.
With one touch she could tell you I love you. With one look in her eyes she could tell you that she was hungry, sleepy, happy or joyful. She could tell you to keep going with whatever you were doing or to stop whatever you were doing. With one sound of her voice you knew whether she was in pain or simply laughing because something had really tickled her.
As I reflect on all of the beautiful moments spent with Jasmine, I now realize that she was truly “differently abled,” and on so many levels. The ability to have an entire conversation without words being spoken, provide you with a lifetime of love with no request for anything in return. The ability to turn your sad day into a joyous day with one laugh, and give you a motivational speech with her resilience to keep going when times became tough for her, is truly exceptional.
Jasmine taught us that we needed to catch up to her and not the other way around. Jasmine taught us that we need to learn communication, love, resilience, tenacity, grit, and compassion on a higher level. We need to give each other more grace and to look out for those in this world who could not look out for themselves.
She taught me the love of Jesus Christ by a life well lived! She is the only human I’ve known, who never sinned one day of her life. She will be missed dearly and she is my motivation to ascend to a higher level so that one day, I too can speak her language and bring a little bit of heaven to earth when I encounter others. That through a life well lived, I too can invite the kingdom of heaven into the chaos of a fallen world. I believe that when I learn the lessons of Jasmine and apply them, the prayer Jesus prayed will become reality in our lives . “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth; even as it is in heaven.”
Rest in peace, Princess Jasmine and thank you for allowing me to encounter your love, kindness, strength and joy. I will carry it with me always, until I see you again on the other side of the River! Love, Dad! 💜💜🙏🏾🙏🏾
