Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Steven H. Ferencie, age 84, of Griffin. GA passed away peacefully in his home on March 9, 2026 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He is preceded in death by his sister Monica Petron and brothers Richard and Ted Ferencie. He is survived by his wife Karen Ferencie of Griffin, GA, his son Steven Ferencie Jr. and his wife Cristy Ferencie, of Cumming, GA and his grandchildren Anna Ferencie and Sean Ferencie.

Steve was born on November 15, 1941, in Cleveland, OH to Steven Edward Ferencie and Anastasia “Nettie” Ferencie. Growing up, he was a good student, multi-sport athlete and student body President at Kenston High School in Chagrin Falls, OH. He went on to graduate from the United States Naval academy in 1963 and admirably serve the United States in the Navy. After the Navy, he had a career in Information Technology at several companies before retiring in the early 2000s. He long enjoyed working on his computer in retirement.

Steve was devoted to and loved his family very much. He married Karen Jordan Ferencie on April 1, 1989. They shared a love of golf, travel and time with family, including a treasured eight-year experience of traveling the country in an RV together where they learned all about our great country. Steve was a wonderful father to his son Steve and they shared a love of golf, Major League Baseball, and all Georgia Tech sports.

    Dear Mrs. Ferencie,
Please accept my warmest condolences on your loss of Steve and express my great sympathy to all of his family. Steve and I were roommates for two years at the Academy and I valued his friendship greatly. I still remember the day on which he convinced me to join him in subscribing to the Chagrin Falls newspaper because we were so unhappy with the Washington Post.
Because of the war in Vietnam, our Academy class lost touch with so many of our best friends. Years later, several of us tried to reach Steve. I finally tracked him down by telephone to invite him to one of our major Reunions, but he expressed no interest.
Should you have any interest, I would be pleased to send to you by email a copy of my remarks at our 60th Reunion where I spoke of the unique bond that was formed during our years together at the Academy.

    Steve Duncan
For now, permit me to tell you how much I admired Steve,

Leave a Condolence
