Joseph Sherwood “Joe” Davis passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born on April 7, 1946, in Dunedin, Florida, Joe was the son of William Haywood Davis and Sara Katherine Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, William Frank Davis.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Joy Childress Davis; his son, Jody Davis Keen; and his beloved stepchildren, Jason Turner (Natalie) and Jessica Pauter (Kevin), whom he loved as his own. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Dustin Orr, Josh Orr, Danyelle Orr, Mason Keen, and Mary Avery Keen, along with extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Joe lived a life marked by creativity, service, and a deep love for his family. After attending the University of Alabama, he proudly served six years in the U.S. Army Security Agency in military intelligence while stationed in Europe.
Following his military service, Joe continued his education at Auburn University’s School of Graphic Design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Commercial Design. He spent many successful years in the commercial art and graphic design industry, where he combined creativity, talent, and attention to detail in work he truly enjoyed.
Outside of his career, Joe had a passion for woodworking, bird watching, and history. He appreciated craftsmanship, storytelling, and the simple joy of creating something meaningful with his hands. Joe’s steady presence, creative spirit, and caring heart will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 15, at City Church Griffin, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
