Megan Hill Kendall

Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Megan Hill Kendall, age 35, of Dacula, Georgia, passed away at home on June 10 from TNBC.

Born on July 8, 1990, in Snellville, Georgia, to Tim and Kim Hill, Megan was an honor graduate at Brookwood High School in 2008, where she was a cheerleader, member of the track team, peer leader, and viola orchestra student. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a music minor from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, where she met her future husband, Benjamin Kendall. She was also an orchestra student there, playing in a quartet for weddings and other events, and a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She began her career with Gwinnett County Public Schools as a parapro at Trickum Middle School, and the following year, she moved to the orchestra program, where she realized her passion. She achieved her teaching certification by completing Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Teach Gwinnett program, which allowed her to work in her dream job as a high school orchestra teacher at her alma mater. She co-taught alongside her former teacher, Dr. Cathie Hudnall, which was a special experience for them both. When Dr. Hudnall retired, Megan was asked to take over as lead orchestra teacher, a position in which she flourished due to her love of music, her desire to continue a program of excellence, and her devotion to her students. She added to her expertise by earning a Master of Education in Music degree from Georgia State University.

Megan was a warm, caring person who took a genuine interest in others and was dearly loved by her family, friends, and students. She worked tirelessly to recruit and retain students in Brookwood’s orchestra program, helping those students strive to attain personal excellence, which resulted in the five orchestras achieving high marks in their annual concert competitions. Some of her students were selected to play at Carnegie Hall. Megan was honored to be chosen by Brookwood’s 2025 Star Student as his Star Teacher. Those who knew Megan knew her obsession with Harry Potter, reading each book multiple times, and collecting copies of some of the books in other languages. Ben proposed to her in front of Hogwarts at Harry Potter World in Orlando. Even her dog was named Ron Weasley. Her babies’ cribs were guarded by Hedwig, and the lightning bolt graced the wall and the sheets. Megan loved to travel and took her students on many wonderful educational tours. She and Ben also enjoyed trips together and backpacking with the children. Her Christian faith shaped her personality, and she loved being involved in church activities, playing viola in special music services, participating in a small group, and attending the women’s devotional programs known as Propel, where she was asked to speak last year. She loved spending time with her family, especially cabin trips and lake weekends (sunning, pontooning, paddleboarding and ending the day around the fire pit). One of her favorite titles was Uncle Meg, and she is known for making the best guacamole.

She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Kendall; children: Kentwins, Will and Ellie (9), and Audrey (4); parents, Tim and Kim Hill; in-laws, Theron Kendall, Sharon Kendall and Mark Elkins;  siblings, Bryan Hill (Anna), Kevin Hill (Catherine), and Rachel Post (Logan); nephews and nieces: Jacob, Elizabeth, Ava, Davis, Maggie, Amelia, Carter and Hudson; and beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on June 27th at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church, 395 W Crogan Street, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30046, where Megan and Ben were married and are now members. The church’s senior pastor, Reverend Dr. Adam Hilderbrandt, and his wife, Michelle, were Megan’s youth ministers at Mountain Park United Methodist Church, so theirs is a longstanding and special “family” relationship. Memorial donations can be made to your favorite cancer charity, Lawrenceville First UMC, or the Brookwood Orchestra Program.
