Jeannette Phillabaum Lougee, lovingly known as “Nana,” was born in 1957 and passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026.
For 30 years Jeannette touched countless lives as a teacher and mentor. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and caring for the people she loved. She made her family feel safe, supported, and at home, and she extended that same kindness to others. A frequent volunteer, including with Toys for Tots and meal programs for those in need, she found purpose in quietly helping wherever she could. A woman of faith, she was a regular Bible study attendee and enjoyed friendly competition as an avid pickleball player.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John Lougee; her daughter Sarah Plasterer (Ray) and their children Ray and Emma; her son Collins Schomburg (Bridget) and their children Allie,Katie, and Noah; her daughter Maggie Freeborn (Morgan) and their children Hudson and Ryan; her siblings Teri Beard (Tom), Kathy Gregory (Bill), Christine Braski (Pat), Steve Phillabaum, and Diane Land (John); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mary Phillabaum, and her niece, Laura Gregory.
Jeannette’s greatest legacy is the love she gave her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate to call her wife, Mom, Nana, sister, or friend.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2000 Kay Circle, Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in her memory to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909, or online at www.columbushospice.com.
Georgia Cremation-Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Some people leave a mark on the lives around them through simple acts of kindness, generosity, and love. Jeannette was one of those people. She was the kind of person who made others feel welcome, cared for, and valued, and her warmth touched far more people than she probably ever realized.
Thank you, Jeannette, for being such a loving and kind neighbor, not only to me but also to my son and his family. You have always been a pillar of our community, and your gentle spirit and kind heart will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to John and the entire Lougee family during this difficult time. May the memories of Jeannette’s love, laughter, and caring spirit bring comfort in the days ahead. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

Our dear friend Jeannette, words can’t say enough on how much we will cherish our times together. We met in one of our favorite places and always tried to get together every chance we could, the beach! I remember our home cooked surf n turfs John and Dean did the grilling. You and I handled the inside food! Sitting on the beach together. The trips we took, OMG what fun! First big trip was to Costa Rica with more friends. Our friends loved you! And then just the 2 couples to Hawaii! We had a blast!
You always talked very highly of your family, so much love. You were always on the go! You lived life to the fullest.
