Remigio (Remi) Joseph de Souza of Snellville, Georgia passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026 after a valiant fight against the ravages of Parkinson’s disease.

Remi was born on October 1, 1936 in the village of Santerxette, Aldona (Bardez-Goa-India) to Antonio and Basta. His secondary schooling at Saint Thomas High School, led by his much-esteemed mentor, Edward Soares, laid the foundation of a Catholic values-based education. He proceeded to study civil engineering and earned his Bachelor of Science at Saint Xavier’s College in Bombay (now Mumbai), India.

His vocation of over 50 years led him to live a peripatetic life – Dehradun (India), Al Jubail (Saudi Arabia), New Jersey, Maryland, Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Oregon – before finally retiring in 2009. He moved to Georgia post-retirement and indulged in his favorite past times of reading history and watching sports, especially tennis and the World Cup.

For almost his entire career, alongside him was his dearly beloved wife of 59 years, Amedia de Souza, née D’Cruz, who passed away February 2, 2024. He is survived by his daughters, Bertha and Valerie (Mark Ramsburg), and his darling granddaughter, Lindsay. He was predeceased in life by his sisters, Sr. Odile (Carmelite Order), Aninha (Vasconcelho D’Souza), and Assumptina; and his brothers, Peter and Franklin (Dolly).

He was a quiet, reserved, prayerful man who loved listening to the old big band standards and Christmas music all year long. True to his exacting nature, this year he was focused on seeing his 90^th birthday…a nice round number. He almost made it.
