Betty was born on June 7, 1940, to Dolphus LeRoy and Mary Edna Hubbard in Bibb City, Alabama. She passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her children on September 29, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia at the age of 86.
Vibrant and larger than life, it was in the simple and tender moments that her spirit shone brightest. Laughter around her came easily, her joy was infectious, and nowhere was her enormous capacity for love more evident than in the way she cherished her family.
Her family was always growing. She stood in as a mother and grandmother to neighbors and the countless soldiers she met in her 28 years working for AAFES. She was a living library, preserving history and memories through her stories from another time. With a deft and nurturing hand, she stitched, tended, and nourished everything in her care — turning simple fabric into tangible pieces of her love, coaxing life and color from the earth, and preparing food that could heal your soul.
Betty is survived by her sister Edith Dean Lovelady; her seven children, Carol Denise Easley, Michael Earl Scott, Sheila Jean Catrett, Sherry Dean Faircloth, Phillip Glenn Scott, Angela Marie Scott, Cynthia Leah Platt; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Dawn Trevathan and grandson Joshua Kevin Thomas Ward.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at 2:00pm on Sunday October 18, 2026 at Cox Funeral Home, 240 Walton St Hamilton, Georgia 31811
Georgia Cremation-Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.
