Charles Fred Massey, Jr., age 77, of Brookhaven, GA passed away peacefully on November 16, 2017 after battling for 12 years after having a car wreck.
Fred was born July 14, 1940 in Hogansville, GA. He grew up in Meriwether County and shortly after graduation began to work in construction in Atlanta. He met and married his life partner of 57 years, Diane Silverberg Massey there and went to Southern Technical Institute(now Southern Polytechnical Institute) in Marietta, GA. He had a successful underground utility company in Atlanta before moving to Florida in 1976. Fred continued his building, developing and property management business in Florida. He also built and operated a 36′ sport fishmerman named “The Valkyrie” and was known as Captain Redbeard.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. Massey, Sr. and Helen Daniel Massey. He is survived by wife, Diane Silverberg Massey; daughters, Dedra J. (Kevin) Watson of Lihue, HI, Kellie Davis of Covington, GA and Heather L. (Russ) Steed of Portland, OR. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a loving and supportive extended family of many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Fred Massey will be held 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 at Grace Community Fellowship, Newnan, GA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Community Fellowship www,gracenewnan.org
