Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Born on June 6, 1971 in Killeen, Texas, Genny was the daughter of Don Gossett and Darlene (Johnston) Gossett. She was married to Roger Johnson of Archdale, NC for over 26 years. She had four sons: Edward, Don, Daniel, and Jean, and three bonus daughters: Alexis, Criselle, and Jennifer. Blessed with seven grandchildren: Haydon, Grayson, Allissa, Cameron, Penelope, Alivia, and Charlie.
Genny was a passionate woman, who put all of herself into whatever she did. As a mother, she was her boys’ biggest advocate, going to war with coaches and schools, making sure that they always got everything they needed to succeed.
Genny’s motherly instincts was not just for her children. She would take her husband’s Soldiers and be their mother away from home. She would cook legendary Thanksgiving meals for them and their families, giving them a sense of home away from home.
Genny established a family readiness group for 3-314th Field Artillery Battalion at Ft. Drum, NY to support the unit families during a deployment to Iraq. Her duties as the FRG leader were to maintain family morale, deliver timely information to families, and assist command with notices of injuries and deaths of service members in Iraq to their families. Genny was not the traditional person normally selected for this position, but she saw the need, took the initiative, took on the system, and took care of those families.
Genny was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church, where her infectious joy and bubbly personality always lit up the room! In fact, everywhere she went, whether in the line at Walmart, or any one of the numerous hospitals and doctor’s offices she visited over the last few years, she was always smiling and sharing her love for Jesus. Genny never met a stranger.
During her short time here, she was a fighter, a loyal sister and friend, a loving wife, a ferocious mother. We were all blessed to know her.
A service to celebrate Genny’s life will be held Monday, November 21, 2022 at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, Phenix City at 2:00 pm.
Georgia Cremation, Columbus is assisting the family with arrangements.
