Jedidiah “Jed” Dewey Murray

Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Jedidiah “Jed” Dewey Murray passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 16, 2023 at the age of 36.

Beloved son, brother bear, Dad-idiah, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, most loyal of friends, most likely to give you the actual shirt off of his back, and the most handy of handymen this side of the Chattahoochee.

All of Columbus and beyond grieve with us the loss of the kindest man, with the biggest heart, that we were all so blessed to call ours. Always the last to leave and the first to arrive in times where help was needed, Jed was a bright light to everyone who met him – a genuine soul who never met a stranger.  He was the biggest goofball who had others belly laughing often – his laughter was contagious and his silent guffaws were truly something to behold.

Jed was an extreme sports enthusiast – a snowboarder, wakeboarder, and an avid skateboarder. He enjoyed a good game of golf and loved watching sports of all kinds – especially college football; an Alabama fan just like his Daddy Jack.  He was also an outdoorsman, a fisherman, a builder, a handyman, a mechanic of sorts, and everyone’s favorite problem-solver — if he didn’t know how to do something, it wouldn’t take him long to figure it out.  His fix-it skills and love of DeWalt power tools were so legendary that many of his friends teased him that his middle name should be DeWalt rather than Dewey!  A business major with an entrepreneurial spirit, Jed’s endless good vibes and positivity were the fuel behind his many successful ventures and accolades.

Jed was a walking blessing to everyone whose life he touched by spreading hope, joy, love, and sunshine. He truly had a heart for people and never turned away anyone that asked something of him. At the end of the day, it is a far easier task to create a list of things that Jed couldn’t do than to create a list of things that he could.

He was the best holiday sous chef at family gatherings – you could find him at his cousin’s side every holiday to help with the Reeses Pies, the one ready to make the meanest Moscow Mule on beach trips, a shoe aficionado who had more shoes than his sister (which is saying something ), a motorcyclist, an old car lover just like his Paw Paw, a Musicophile – known to freestyle without hesitation, a writer of lyrical prose, an unbeatable force (literally) in the game of Clue, and immensely enjoyed a good game of Canasta with his mom, Risk with his dad, and Uno with his son. Jed also dove headfirst into the world of Fortnight, all the better to play with his favorite nephew Joseph — and in any real-life battle he was always the one you would want by your side. He adored intellectual discussion and debate; his clever mind was always working to get to the heart of the matter. Jed led the charge helping research, meal-prep, and do whatever it took to ensure his mother was able to conquer cancer.

Jed loved reading books with his son River and worked tirelessly to share the world with him. They loved skateboarding, fishing, swimming, going to Launch, and playing together. One of their favorite activities was watching for eagles together to remind them of “PawPaw” Jack. Jed loved nothing more than spending time with his son; his entire life orbited around the light of the love he had for him.

Jedidiah is survived by his former partner and co-parent, Melissa Posey, and their son River Murray, beloved Mother Latrelle Dover, Bonus Dad Michael Dover, and his  “Sis-Star” Lauryl and brother (in-law) Todd Andrae, his nephew Joseph Rogers and his MeeMaw Gloria Crisler.  Jedidiah is also survived by his many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as many friends. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Jack Murray.

Anyone who knew him will tell you, Jed was one in a zillion, and we will miss him with all the strength in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Go Fund Me that has been created to provide for Jedidiah’s son.  If Jed ever reached out a helping hand your way, please consider donating to the person he loved most on this earth.

  25. Stephanie B. on East Britt David says

    June 30, 2023 at 4:12 pm

Jed, you were the kindest neighbor. Always offering to help. Although you only lived across the street from me for a short time, I definitely enjoyed watching you and River spending time together, bonding in the front yard. I KNEW you were the greatest Dad based on the time you spent with him.
When you told me you were selling the house, i was so bummed. But I was completely shocked to hear the terrible news of your passing, Especially after the long call about how much you loved your mom and wanted to move closer to her. After that call, i remember thinking how BLESSED your mom was to have a son like you. We can never make sense of deaths like this, but the ripple effect of your absence felt by others, is long and wide.
I pray peace from God on your entire family, friends, and your business partner. May the memories they have, stay with them through their lifetime without you. My big regret is not taking the time to get to know you better b/c after reading all these messages, clearly i missed out. Skate on – Stephanie
