Ingewald Katharina Baker, 91 of Hamilton, GA passed away peacefully on August 04, 2024 at 8:34 am EST. Ingewald was born July 11, 1933 in Elhotten, Czechoslovakia to her father, Wenzel Ott and her mother, Marie (Turk) Ott. She married Burness Raymond Baker in April 16, 1955; they shared 48 wonderful years together before his passing. Ingewald leaves behind two sons, Rickey R. Baker and Robert R. Baker and her grandchildren Michael Davis, Mallory Davis, and Andy Baker and her great-grandson, Jade Davis. She was an only child growing up. Ingewald spent her early life scared in the horrors of war. As a young teen she would take the train to her school two cities away, where every year a different army controlled what she was taught. War had an influencing affect on her but the aftermath lead her being a refuge in war torn Germany where she worked hard to stave off poverty. Hard work taught her valuable lessons in patience, discipline, and resilience, shaping her into a stronger and more capable individual leading her to becoming a great mom. Ingewald was known for taking care of any stray animals that managed to find their way to her loving care. She always managed to feed every animal whether hers, her neighbors or a stray. She loved walking in the woods, gardening, cooking, and loving her family. She always mothered the children at Mt. Hill Elementary School cafeteria where she cooked and managed before her retirement on October 1, 1994. Later she helped out at Lick Skillet G&G, a family run business, and with kindness and compassion she succeeded in making certain that continuing everyone called her their mom. Family and friends will remember her energetic strength, her thoughtfulness, and her ability to make anyone who knew her, aware of an extraordinarily generosity that was infectious from her. She always put others before herself and made sure everyone felt cherished and treasured. Her memory will live in the hearts of so many, a testament to her long life filled with appreciation for who she was.
A private service to celebrate Ingewald’s life will be announced at a later date.
