Alan Dale Reese Sr., born January 3rd, 1965 in Nuremberg, Germany, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and music. The youngest child of 1st Sgt. William C. Reese (Susie) and Mary J. Wyatt, Alan grew up with an old soul and a wild heart, the kind that left a lasting impression on every person lucky enough to meet him.
He was the baby brother to Jan Langdorf, Joanie Martin. An older brother to Eric Conklin (Sarah), and Jodi Conklin (Michelle), and the proud father of three children—Brittany Reese (Mikey), AJ Reese (Shan), and Melissa Reese (DJ)—each of whom carry his rhythm, fire, and stubborn brilliance in their own ways.
Alan was also a beloved uncle to Jason Langdorf (Jessica), great-nephew Cole, nephews Shawn and Lucas, and nieces Aspen and Da’rcy. In his later years, his heart expanded even further to welcome bonus children: Scott Russell (Joslyn), Nick Warren, Jameson Flanagan, Justin Sollenberger (Lindsey), and Katie Hollar (Shane), each of whom he loved like his own.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law COL Kelly Langdorf, Tommy Martin, niece Christina Langdorf and many aunts and uncles he held close to his heart.
Alan had a soul made of melody and grit. A lifelong lover of music, he brought inspiration and fire to countless musicians over the years. Whether he was jamming with friends, teaching his kids their first chords, or spinning records by the fire, he made sure music was always playing—loud, raw, and real.
Professionally, he was a certified John Deere mechanic—one of the best in his field—before spending a decade at Pratt & Whitney. Even as his health began to fade, his spirit didn’t. He became a rock for his children, and a father figure to many of their friends. He had a way of showing up exactly when you needed him—whether it was to fix a truck, hand you a guitar, or just tell you the hard truth wrapped in humor and love.
Alan’s chosen family ran deep. Lifelong friends like Ty Rutan and Steve Romo (Ginny) were brothers in everything but blood. There are too many others to name, but if you ever sat around a fire with him, heard him play, or got a nickname from him—you were family.
His spiritual partner and the mother of his children, Angela J. Hartzog, remained by his side through every high and low. Together, they created a home filled with chaos, laughter, pain, and above all, love.
There will be no formal funeral service, per his wishes. Instead, a party will be held at his favorite place—his campsite—on a date to be announced. There, stories will be told, music will play, and his spirit will live on through the joy and connection he cherished most.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to his mother, Mary J. Wyatt, and her household to assist with remaining expenses.
Alan Dale Reese Sr. was the kind of man you don’t forget. A rebel, a teacher, a father, a friend. He left behind more than memories—he left behind a legacy of creativity, strength, and unapologetic authenticity. He will be missed deeply and remembered fiercely.
