Ann Johnson Jones (MawMaw), age 84, of Johns Creek, GA and formally of Ty Ty, GA, passed away after a brief illness on February 5, 2020.
Ann was born May 30, 1935 in Ty Ty, GA. She lived her entire life, prior to her recent move to Johns Creek, within 3 miles of where she was born. She raised her 5 children before joining the Tift County Board of Education, first as a Teacher’s Aide, then as Secretary of Matt Wilson School, ultimately obtaining her teaching degree at 45 years old. She taught Special Education at Tift County High School for 16 years. She held many positions of leadership with Tift County Retired Educators after retirement. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Ty Ty.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Murray and Lola Johnson; brother, Franklin Johnson; husband, Erwin J. Jones; children, Butch Jones and Patsy Jones Hankins.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Jones of Kitakyushu, Japan, Bonnie Flanders (Malcolm) of Duluth, GA and Joanne Kemp (Martin) of Alpharetta, GA; two granddaughters, Leslie Hankins of Florence, AL and Allison Bird (Seth) of Dawsonville, GA; one great grandson, Finn Bird of Dawsonville, GA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to First Baptist Church of Ty Ty, to be used for youth outreach services. Cards may be sent to the family c/o Joanne Kemp, 1220 Legend Run, Alpharetta, GA 30005.
The family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation of Duluth, GA. A graveside service at First Baptist Church of Ty Ty will be held at a later date.
