It is with great sadness that the family of Austin James Johnson Hemphill announce his passing on February 23, 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia. Austin was affectionately called AJ by those who loved and were closest to him. AJ was born on December 26, 1987, in Charleston, South Carolina, he grew up in Lompoc, California where he lived for years before moving to Stone Mountain Georgia. In 2016 AJ Graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in Finance. AJ was a benevolent, kind, and creative soul, he was a composer and proficiently played multiple instruments. His musical style and range transcended his years. AJ loved all genres of music and was at ease with music from different periods. AJ was passionate and had an intense sense of empathy. He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
He is survived by his parents Deena Johnson, Clote & Cynthia Hemphill; Grandmothers Elrita Olson and Anne Johnson; older brother Joey Hemphill; older sister, Nika Williams; and Uncles Mark and Nicholas Johnson. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Clote Sr. & Esther Jean Hemphill, and his maternal Grandfather Henry Johnson.
A Celebration of AJ’s life will be held on April 4, 2020, at 4:00 pm in Jacksonville, Florida.

I’m so sorry to hear of AJ’s passing. It’s really sad. This promise from God will comfort you. Acts 24:15: “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Our caring God will give you strength and courage to cope with your grief.

Hi Deena,
I wish I had your number or address to visit you. I miss Austin so much and think about him almost every day. He was like a brother to me and I know I wasn’t the best representation of how a friend should be while he was here, but I really really miss him. His laugh, his intelligence, his ability to view things from outside of the box. I hate that he was taken so early. However, I know he watching us now and in a better place. I hope you are doing well and hope I get to see you or hear from you.
Sincerely,
Dominic
