Avelina Lugtu was born Avelina Puri on February 14, 1920 in the Philippines and passed June 18, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
She married Alberto B. Lugtu September 15, 1937, and together they had 11 children: Orlando (and Rosita)
Lugtu, Alfredo (and Leonor) Lugtu, Francisco (and Rosita) Lugtu, Abelardo (and Teresita) Lugtu, Eduardo
(and Consuelo) Lugtu, Lolita (and Reynaldo) Dimalanta, Emerita (and Juanito) Castro, Herminio Lugtu, Lilia
(and Marlon) Raquiza, Alexander (and Robin) Lugtu, & Virginia (and Gerardo) Vergara. “Grandma Lugtu,” as
she was affectionately called, had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Avelina was a loving, caring, and hardworking daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She
was known for her hospitality and unselfish concern for others which endeared her to all who had the pleasure of
knowing her.
Over half a century ago, Avelina was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. From that time forward, she showed
by word and example how people could benefit their lives by serving Jehovah.
Avelina will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. We eagerly await the time when our loving Heavenly
Father Jehovah will reunite us with our dear “Grandma Lugtu.”

Dear Lugtu,
It is so sad to lose such a special person. I pray that Jehovah will soothe your hearts at this time. How wonderful to know that very soon she will awaken to see all the wonderful promises she has preached about for so many years with her very own eyes! And can enjoy them to the full with her beautiful, faithful family!
Love to all,
Carla Jensen Rials
