On January 1, 1945, Yvonne Jessie Mae Nelson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Henry and Vonzelle Nelson. She was a New Year’s gift to her parents and the first of nine children to their union. She was educated in the New Orleans public school system and graduated from George Washington Carver Senior High School in 1963. After graduating she attended nursing school.
At a young age, she attended Wilson Chapel AME Church, where she was baptized and later served as church secretary. She met her childhood sweetheart Hardy Timmons there, who later became her husband, until his untimely passing. From that union two sons were born; Eric Henry Timmons and Hardy Timmons Jr.
Years later, she moved her membership to Caffin Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church and remained a faithful and long-term member. Yvonne utilized her nursing training and worked many years at Methodist Hospital as a Ward Clerk. It was at the hospital that she met fellow employee, Charles Montgomery. They later married and had two children, Monique Montgomery and Warren Charles Montgomery.
Eventually, Yvonne decided to start a new chapter in her life by moving to Atlanta, Georgia. Once there she joined Mt.Olive Seventh Day Adventist Church where she served as an usher and cared for children in the nursery.
If you speak with any of her family, friends or anyone who met her they would tell you that Yvonne lived to serve God. She showed love, care, and compassion for everyone. She often traveled back to Louisiana for an extended stay to help care for her aging mother before her passing. She loved life, her family, people, cooking and she absolutely loved to eat.
No matter how difficult things became in her life she always had a positive attitude and outlook, and a smile for everyone. Her response in difficult times would always be “this too shall pass.” Her positive spirit was always shining through. She was famous for her corny jokes, which totally cracked her up, even if no one else was laughing.
Yvonne was preceded in her death by her parents; Henry, Sr. and Vonzelle, husbands; Hardy Timmons and Charles Montgomery, son; Warren Montgomery, and brother; Henry Nelson, Jr.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her children Eric (Erica), Hardy, Jr (Angel), and Monique (Corey), her siblings Brenda, Joseph (Connie), Josephine (Joseph), Jesse, Rosalind (George), Tommy (Diamond), and Shelia (Errol). She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The Montgomery family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation -Fayetteville.
