Benjamin Ellis Albury, Jr., age 78 of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017. Mr. Albury proudly served his country and was a veteran of the US Navy. Ben Albury was born on August 11, 1938 to Ben Albury Sr. and Martha Louise Albury in Miami, FL. Soon after, he had a best friend for life when he became a big brother to Bill. They enjoyed a healthy sibling rivalry. As children, they challenged one another to be stronger and faster. As they were older, they could find ways to compete over the tallest or most-lit Christmas tree or who could make/eat the spiciest BBQ ribs. Their love inspired them to join the U.S. Navy together, and also became Christians at about the same time at Shiloh Baptist Church.
Ben was very generous with his time and resources, feeling great compassion for those in need. Ben loved the water, including boating, swimming and the sights & sounds of the ocean. He was a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan. He was an avid reader of current events and enjoyed studying politics. He enjoyed playing card games, feeding the birds, dancing, listening to good music and could always appreciate a good milkshake. Above all, he loved his family. He savored hearing even the smallest details with a pleasant smile that could hardly conceal his pride.
Ben is survived by his ex-wife, Mary Bowles (James) and son, Dusty (Heather), grandchildren Zoe Albury and Brock Albury, brother Bill Albury (Libby), as well as nieces Angel Harris, Michelle Garner, Tina Albury and nephew Billy Albury.
A service to celebrate the life of Benjamin Ellis Albury, Jr. will be held 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. Afterwards, a reception will be held 12:30 P.M. at Dusty Albury’s house, 542 Sunset Drive, Norcross, GA 30071.
