Brenda Sue Meehan Byrd, a woman whose life was a living testament to the love of Christ, entered into the eternal, loving arms of Jesus on March 20, 2026. Born on August 2, 1946, to Mary and Sherman Meehan, Brenda’s journey of service began remarkably early. At the tender age of seven, following the tragic loss of her beloved Daddy, she stepped into the crucial role of caretaker for her younger brothers and sister. This profound experience forged in her a lifelong, deep-seated calling to be a nurturer and caretaker for everyone she encountered.
Brenda truly embodied the selfless, unwavering love of Christ. She was invariably the first person to step up, offering comfort, support, and practical care to anyone in need. Her life was not merely lived; it was poured out in a vibrant display of faith, abiding joy, and tireless service. She leaves behind an indelible legacy of profound love and boundless compassion that will continue to resonate through the generations she touched. While her earthly presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and adored her, we are comforted by the unwavering peace found in the promise of eternal life.
Throughout her walk of life, Brenda cultivated countless friendships—relationships that quickly blossomed into something far deeper, transforming friends into chosen family. Her capacity for love was immense; she loved deeply, passionately, and unconditionally, and this warmth was immediately felt by everyone. Brenda possessed a beautiful, rare old soul, and it was simply impossible not to feel cherished and loved when she was near.
Her greatest earthly pride and joy, however, was her family. She was immensely proud of her children, whose lives she shaped with devotion. Her passion for serving and loving people defined her existence. If a single word could capture the essence of Brenda Sue Meehan Byrd, it is love. She touched, uplifted, and transformed so many lives with her gentle spirit and generous heart. To honor her in the most fitting way possible, we gather together to celebrate her life, share the countless stories that reflect her spirit, and ensure her legacy of love endures. There is no doubt that as she walked into the gates of Heaven, she was welcomed with the words every true servant longs to hear: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Though we grieve the profound loss of her physical presence, we take immense comfort in the knowledge that Brenda is joyfully reunited in Heaven with those who preceded her: her devoted husband of fifty years, Gordon Dean Byrd Sr.; her mother, Mary Stinchcomb; her father, Sherman Meehan; her stepfather, John Robert Stinchcomb; and her brother, Gene Meehan.
She is survived by her most treasured blessings: her beloved son, Gordon Dean Byrd Jr. and Emanuele; her loving daughter, Brandi Suzanne Byrd; her cherished grandchildren, Madison Johnson and her husband, Daniel, Mason Gunnin and, Sarah, and Morgan Gunnin. Her legacy continues through her three precious great-grandchildren, whom she considered her greatest blessings: Hadleigh Ann, Camden Lee, and Hayes Lee.
A service to celebrate the extraordinary life of Brenda will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 3:00 PM, at One Church, located at 2130 Redwine Road, Fayetteville, Georgia 30215.
The celebration will be held by the serene lake, and guests are invited to dress comfortably for the casual, heartfelt gathering. Following the service, all are welcome to join in a time of food and fellowship under the pavilion. We ask that during this time, you share your love and favorite stories, helping to keep Brenda’s remarkable legacy alive.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Brenda Byrd to Southwest Christian Care, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, Georgia 30291, (770) 969-8354.
