Brian Anthony Greer

Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Brian Anthony Greer, also known as, “Cookie Monster” was born on May 18, 1979, in Detroit, Michigan to Briana M. Greer (Phillips) and stepfather, Robert. He was raised on the West Side of Detroit, where he formed lifelong friendships and deep bonds that became like family. These relationships became what he proudly referred to as his “G-Family”.
“Cookie” was a strong-willed, fearless, and determined man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He lived a life marked by resilience and survival, navigating many difficult and complex chapters that were understood most fully by those closest to him. Known for standing his ground and never backing down, “Cookie” carried a tough exterior, but those who truly knew him understood he was a gentle giant with a deeply loving heart.
Beyond his personality, “Cookie” made a meaningful impact on the young men around him. He encouraged them to be responsible, to stand firm in who they were, and to take accountability as fathers and men. Through his guidance, many learned the importance of showing up, providing, protecting, and being present in their children’s lives. To many, “Cookie” was more than a friend—he was a mentor, a big brother, a father figure, and family.
Brian was also a devoted father who deeply loved his children. They were central to his life and his greatest source of pride.
Brian’s life took a significant turn after suffering a stroke in 2021, which changed his independence and daily way of living. No longer able to move through life as he once had, he eventually relocated from Detroit to Jonesboro, Georgia to be closer to his mother and sister, where he could receive care and support from family.
In the years that followed, Brian’s health continued to decline. He developed end-stage kidney failure and required dialysis, with repeated hospitalizations over time. Despite the love, prayers, and hope of his family, his condition continued to worsen.
Through all of life’s challenges, one truth remained constant—Brian deeply loved his family. He loved his children, his siblings, his mother, and the G-Family he built in Detroit. Beneath the strength, toughness, and reputation he carried, he was a man who cared deeply for those he called his own.
Brian’s life was filled with relationships, lessons, struggles, and love that left a lasting impact on many. The people he guided, the family he supported, and the lives he touched will continue to carry his memory forward.
After a long and difficult fight, Brian can now put down his armor and join his mother Briana, his brother Jonathon, and his son Davarion, all whom preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory Dashary Charde Hamilton (grandchildren Aubree and Zay’Vion), Da’Varion Greer (preceded in death), DaMaya Greer, Bnay Gardenhire (non-biological), Kaylin Wooten, Kaylah Wooten, Ninyelle Smith, Nyasia Greer, Damon Greer-Slaton, Damari Greer-Slaton, Damere Greer-Slaton, Kya Malone, and Brianna Greer, whose family connection remains part of Brian’s story. Along with his children, he leaves to cherish his memories, his two sisters Laura and Rachel, his bonus dad Robert, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the “G-Family”.
Rest peacefully, Brian. You were our tough guy, our Man of Steel. Your journey may have ended, but your memory and the love you gave will live on forever. You will be missed, remembered, and loved always.
