Burmah “Joyce” Young, 71, of Sandy Springs, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
Joyce was born July 3, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Clifton W. and Laura Mae (Johnson) Moss. She grew up in Atlanta alongside her mother, 3 brothers, and her two sisters. Joyce attended Atlanta Public Schools and obtained her GED. She had a long and fruitful career in retail and spent many years working at Lenox Square.
Joyce spent her entire life in Georgia, living in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, and Senoia. She was a member of the Lion’s club for several year and a faithful Christian. Joyce had a passion for reading and loved all types of books, she read any chance she could. She also took up upholstery as a craft and hobby in her life. She enjoyed watching TV, talking on the phone to her loved ones and friends, and spending time with her beloved son Raymond. She was very proud to be his mom.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents: Clifton W. Moss and Laura Mae Watkins; and her brothers: Buck Moss, William Watkins, and Billy Watkins. She is survived by her son: William Raymond Upshaw (Gwen) of Senoia; her sisters: Joe Ann Dilbeck (Johnny) of Senoia and Juanita Stevenson of Dallas: sisters-in-law; Ana Moss of Newnan and Elaine Watkins of Rossville: several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Joyce’s honor on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 3 PM at Crossroads Church – Sharpsburg Campus, located at 3260 Hwy 16, Sharpsburg, GA 30277. Refreshments will be served at the church immediately following the service.

Joyce was my neighbor in Sandy Springs. Although we both moved we kept in touch. My sons and I will greatly miss you Joyce. Rest in peace my friend.
