Carolyn Hayes, age 74, of Lithonia, Georgia passed away on April. 15, 2021. We lost a beautiful soul and now she is an Angel and will always live in our hearts.
Carolyn Hayes was born on January 6, 1947 in East Meadow NY. She is the 8th child of 11 siblings, born to the late Broadus and Arnetha Humphrey. She spent her childhood in Inwood, NY and West Hempstead, NY (Lakeview), always sharing fond memories with her family and friends. Carolyn was affectionately known as Carole, Aunt Carole and most affectionately known as Ma to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Carole worked for Verizon in New York for 30 years and retired in 1995. After retiring she continued to work for Verizon then worked for the Freeport School District in Freeport, NY where she lived for almost 30 years prior to relocating to Lithonia GA in 2010. Carole will always be remembered as a beautiful, funny, caring, full of life wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who always had a smile and a positive attitude no matter what obstacles came her way. She enjoyed exploring different foods, had a sweet tooth for desserts and her favorite candies, and loved to shop, shop, shop. She had a sense of fashion, being well coordinated in everything she wore, and had a thing for pajamas having every color and style. She was known for that beautiful long silky black hair that laid down her back. Most of all, she will be remembered for having a heart of Gold and a will to Live. She was a Blessing to all who knew her and will be missed immensely by her family and friends. Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Broadus and Arnetha Humphrey; sisters, Helen Humphrey, Edith Humphrey Hilton, and Anne Humphrey Chester; brothers, Edward, Alfred and Robert Humphrey.
