Charles Larry Bishop, 62, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Saturday, October 10 at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his daughter Amber Dunn (Wesley), son Blake Bishop (Rebecca), stepdaughter Amanda Bond (Jeremy), and play-son Joshua Foxworth (Mandy). Also surviving are his siblings Rhonda Bryan, Lamar Bishop, and Wanda Bishop, along with many nieces and nephews. PopPop, as he was known to his grandchildren Megan, Aries, Charlote, Rayllee, Jaxon, and Hasley, will surely be missed. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Virgil, mother Robbie Mae, and wife Faye.
Larry, along with his twin brother Lamar, was born on March 8, 1958 in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He attended Kendrick High School, graduating in 1976. He worked as an elevator repair technician for many years.
Larry was well known around Columbus due to his job working on elevators. For several years, Larry couldn’t go into public without bumping into someone he knew. His kids were often annoyed and embarrassed by the sheer number of people that just wanted to shoot the breeze with Larry. To say he never met a stranger is an understatement!
In his younger days he was an avid hunter, softball player, and chess master. He loved coaching little league baseball and teaching Blake and Josh the fundamentals of any sport they ever took interest in. He enjoyed tinkering on small engines, watching wrestling and NASCAR races, and enjoying life, in general.
Memorial Services are planned for Sunday, Oct. 25 at The Ellerslie Depot in Ellerslie, Georgia from noon to 4pm. While gifts of flowers and food are appreciated right now, monetary contributions can be put to better use at this time. Lamar and family,
I’m so sorry to hear about Larry’s passing. My name is Rosemary, I was at Kendrick with you both, we hung out a lot junior and senior year. Got hit by a deer with Larry in the black and white “muscle car”. You and your brother were good people and good brothers . I have been gone from home a long time, I have good memories from you both. God bless.
