Cheryl Oree

Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Cheryl Oree, age 70, passed from her earthly life on January 31, 2026, and entered into the army of her savior.
Cheryl was born in Queens, NY on June 8, 1955, to Freddie Oree and Willie Mae Beamon. She grew up in Paterson, NJ alongside her parents, two sisters, Germaine Sims and Freda Godwin, and her brother, Kenneth Oree. Cheryl earned her high school diploma from Eastside High School in 1973. She spent the first half of her life in Paterson before moving to College Park, Ga where she put down roots and lived until her passing.
Cheryl was affectionately known as Shirl and Othamommy to those closest to her. Throughout her life she wore many different hats. She worked for Bell South, Georgia Power, and retired from Transportation Security Administration (TSA) – Atlanta in 2020. Cheryl was a hard worker at every job she had and that continued on even after retiring.
Her hobbies included crocheting, puzzles, movies, travelling, going on cruises, listening to music, singing and dancing. She never liked to sit still and was known to always have something going on. Cheryl was vibrant and so full of life, she was regarded as being a ball of fun. She liked to march to the beat of her own drum, but was always aware of others around her and making sure to never make anyone feel uncomfortable.
She spent her last years relaxing and doing exactly what she wanted to do on her own time.
Cheryl was a devoted and loving mother, deeply admired by her daughters. She was always nurturing and selfless, she was their protector and her girls knew they were safe with her. Cheryl was known to all as the cool mom, despite being strict with her rules. She loved her daughters unconditionally and made sure they always knew how proud of them that she was. Cheryl would always say to them “I love you MORE!” And they had no doubts that she meant it. Her great big giving heart extended far beyond her own children though. She would have given the clothes off her back to anyone in need.
Ms. Oree was preceded in death by her parents: Freddie Oree and Willie Mae (Beamon) Sims; and her brother: Kenneth Oree. She is survived by her daughters: Kenshanna and Kendra Oree, both of College Park, GA grandchildren: Shani L. Deas (Sherrod Deas) of Douglasville, GA and Rashad F. Simpson of College Park, GA; great-grandchildren: Jordyn Graves of Douglasville, GA and Jynesis Deas of Douglasville, GA; sisters: Germaine Sims of Duluth, GA, Freda Godwin of Stone Mountain, GA, Barbara Ann Campbell of Columbia, SC, Vera Willingham of East Over, SC, Gloria Cills, Paulette Oree of Columbia, SC. Cheryl also leaves behind her precious fur baby, Tyga. She and Tyga were as thick as thieves, and she loved him with her whole heart.

Mama Oree. I believe mama has known me since 7th grade and I met Kendra through sports. She was always a second mama to me no matter what. So if my mom didn’t get to me first Mama Cheryl did lol. Doesn’t matter if it was PTA meetings, volleyball games, basketball games, Mama Cheryl was always there and that’s what I am going to miss the most. The beautiful smile, our lovely conversations, and the words of encouragement she always gave me that I will forever remember.

To all the family, my condolences from my family and I are with you. Mama Cheryl will forever be remembered. Love you!!
