Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

January 25, 1934 – January 7, 2025

Midland, GA

Christine S. Spain, our beloved mother and granny, passed away peacefully in her home in Midland, GA on January 7, 2025, at the age of 90, a few weeks before her 91st birthday.

She was born on January 25, 1934 in Naylor, GA to the late Esbie Shelton and Marie Allen Shelton. Christine grew up in Naylor and graduated from Naylor High School. She was their star basketball player. She met the love of her life, her late husband George A. Spain, in Valdosta at a dance held on Moody Air Force base. They fell in love and became married. Christine was a homemaker and raised six children. She loved her family, loved to shop, and collected lots of things. The best quality about her was her love for Jesus and the way she made everyone around her want to learn about Jesus as well. She loved to read her Bible and her daily devotions and pray for everyone. She was the perfect picture of what a good Christian woman should be. Christine loved to watch Shepherd’s Chapel church on the tv. She also loved the children of St Jude’s children’s hospital and has donated to them every month since 2010. She was such a loving and giving person and will always be remembered for the love and kindness she poured into her family.

Christine is preceded in death by her husband (George A. Spain), her mother and father (Esbie and Marie Shelton), her son (George A. Spain JR), her grandson (Johnny B. Webster), four sisters, and two brothers.

Christine leaves behind five of her six children (Joy Thompson (John), Scott Spain (Joann), Steve Spain (Kathy), Tina Spain, and Betty Webster, all of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and even a couple great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Gail Bailey.

The family will celebrate Christine’s life at Good Hope Church in Naylor, GA on January 25, 2025 at 2 PM (which would have been her 91st birthday).

Georgia Cremation – Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Christine (Teeny) was my first cousin. I can remember spending the night with Rete ( as I often did) and listening to Teeny and Spain’s ( we called George “Spain”) super cool music. A favorite was “In The Still of The Night”. Rete and I would simply swoon!! Your parents were very special people.
Much love and prayers for all the family.
p.s. I also remember us babysitting Buck and Joy in Valdosta.
