January 11, 1958- April 30, 2023
David, affectionately known to many as “Michael”, was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on January 11, 1958, to Margaret Alice Hott and Robert Hott. Michael and his family settled in Northern California in 1968. He became a “Big” brother to Judy (“Booba”), Lisa, Sarah, and Tammy. Michael attended middle school in East Palo Alto. At this time he attempted to face his fear of snakes head-on by having a pet snake, to the joy of his family members. Later, Michael attended Menlo-Atherton High School. He loved his low-rider- white Chevy Impala with a small silver chain steering wheel. Also, Michael loved music. He was always grooving’ to his music on his 8-track in his Impala. During this time he was nick-named “the Great White Hope”…Great for his car; White because he was white; Hope because he hoped to be Black.
Michael was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1971. He attended the Menlo Park Congregation and met many lifelong friends. In 1981, Michael married Cheryl Worley. During their marriage, Michael and Cheryl became parents to two beautiful children, Stacey and Quincy. They were married for 8 years. Later, Michael married Linda Ivy-Wells. They became parents to a beautiful son, Christopher.
Michael enjoyed his career as a Senior Logistic Analyst and worked with many biotech and healthcare companies. He started with Fisher Scientific in 1988 then worked with Apple, and Baxter Logistics, and successfully retired from Revance Therapeutics in 2020. After retiring he decided to explore his passion as financial investor.
Michael’s plans after retirement was to move to Florida. He later moved to Georgia in 2021 with Stacey to be closer to his grandchildren. Michael enjoyed being a dad to his 3 children and a granddad to his 4 grandchildren. He cherished baking with Stacey and playing basketball with his sons, Quincy and Christopher.
He loved basketball from his youth on. Michael had an extensive garden and taught his children the benefits of healthy eating. He treasured the time spent with this grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments.
Michael was an avid music collector and even DJ’ed from time to time. He loved to play dominoes with friends and family. Michael took yearly trips to his favorite vacation spot, Jamaica. He made many friends there and loved the Jamaican food. Michael also enjoyed learning different languages. He strived to learn words and phrases from co-workers, family, and friends.
Michael was happy to spend quality time with his children and sisters during his final days. He was content and at peace with himself, his closest family members and God. He looked forward to the resurrection hope.(Rev. 21: 3-5)

Stacey, you did a beautiful job with his obituary. I have a lot of fond memories of Michael my brother you guys dad. We wouldn’t let anyone babysit us except Michael all 4 of us my 2 brothers & sister. Michael was fun we would dance and sing and eat as much junk food as we wanted as long as we didn’t get sick🤣🤣 otherwise we be sitting on the sidelines NXT time he kept us. We played dominoes every time. We all loved him. I know he loved his children more then anything in this world. He even sent me pictures of himself & his grandkids whom he loves so much. I sent him plenty of pictures as well. Michael is just resting right baby soon he’ll be awaken and not wanting to see his children & grandkids baking with you again & playing basketball with his boys. And seeing how his grandkids have grown even more. He won’t be sick. I Love you all ❣️🌹

Michael was a wonderful human being and and wonderful father, always there for his children. Funny fact is when I first tried to introduce him to my father back in 1981, he did not want to meet him…pops has BIG attitude. But, in the end, my father looked more forward to Michael coming to the house that they did me. Lol!! I became chopped liver. I never met anyone that did not like Mr. Hott. He always made his friends and my family feel welcome. When people came around him there was the anticipation that cards, dominoes and barbecue and sweet music was going to be jumping off. When we were married we kicked tail in bidwiz, and he always made sure he put on his “butt whoopin’ music”, and he called it. It hurts my heart to know that he left us so early, but he was at peace when I last saw him before he passed. He will truly be missed. Love you baby.

One of the kindest and warm people you could ever meet.I am proud to have been his friend and coworker for 30yrs.God put him in my life when I really needed a true friend. We bonded through music and divorce.Dave had no idea how much he helped me in my life.I would not be in the position I am today if I had not met him.My sincerest condolences and prayers go out to Stacy, Quincy, Chris , all the grandchildren and the entire family.Dave was an extraordinary person. He knew that Trading Places is my favorite movie and we would always quote it and 😂…Our final conversation in Sept of 2022 ended with Dave saying”Good luck👍🏾 see ya on the beach Billy Ray” and I responded “Will do Louis!”…already terribly missing you old friend!😢
