It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Devika Ameer, aged 70.  She died peacefully in her sleep in Loganville, Georgia. Devika passed away on the morning of March 21, 2023.

Devika, born on September 13, 1952, grew up in Georgetown, Guyana.  She subsequently moved to New York City with her husband in 1983 following an accident that left her paralyzed.  Ever the fighter, she forged ahead with life. In retirement, she sought solace on her patch of earth in Georgia.

At the age of 20, she married her devoted husband, Mohamed Khaleel, and went on to have two cherished children.  In spite of Devika’s long struggles, she lived a full life, in which she was the epitome of generosity.  She was passionate about cooking and loved to share baked goods with her friends and family. She was the center of her family and enjoyed a strong and enduring bond with her husband, children, and siblings.

Devika was the daughter of the late Chandi Prashad and Kritwatie Parsatoon; and the stepdaughter of the late Patrick P. Parsatoon.  She is survived by her husband, Mohamed Khaleel Ameer; her children Sheridan Ameer and Dr. Gibran I. Ameer; her son-in-law Herbert J. Preuss and daughter-in-law, Kimberly L. Ameer; her grandchildren, Maximilian X. Preuss, Leopold K. Preuss, and Kennedy L. Ameer; her siblings Rev. Chetram Prashad, Sarswatee Persaud, and Drona P. Parsatoon; her stepsiblings Patricia S. Boyd, June C. Woo, Annette J. Henry, Patrick D. Parsatoon, Peter A. Parsatoon, and Paul H. Parsatoon.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 12 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m., at Tim Stewart Funeral Home located at 300 Simonton Road, SW, Lawrenceville, Georgia, 30046.

The gathering and memorial service will be available on Zoom.
