Dianne Spencer Durfey was a thoughtful and caring mother, sister, Nana and friend.
She passed peacefully on Saturday, August 31st at the age of 88. Dianne was born in
Cincinnati, Ohio on August 15, 1936 to Mary Ensweiler and George Winter. Soon after
graduating from McNicholas High School in Cincinnati, Dianne moved to New York City
to begin her life and her career. While in New York, she started and ran a successful
Public Relations firm at 30 Rockefeller Center. During this time she was also involved in
fashion, creating her own jewelry line; some pieces of which were featured in the
display windows of Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Avenue.
Dianne spent the next 25 years living in New York, working, enjoying the social life of
New York City and taking time to see the world with friends that would remain for life. In
1989, Dianne made the decision to move back to Cincinnati with her daughter, Caroline,
where she lived most of her remaining years alongside family and friends. Among other
interests, she enjoyed reading, travel and playing bridge but her favorite activity by far
was entertaining friends and family and cooking grand meals for all to enjoy, particularly
during the holidays. Nothing compared to Christmas at Nana’s. In 2018, Dianne moved
to Columbus, GA with her dear friend Bob McGee so that they could be closer to
Caroline and her family.
Dianne is predeceased by her brother, Richard Spencer, and she is survived by her
loving daughter, Caroline Borkat (Dan), her two adoring grandchildren, Jacob and Alex
and her sister, Jane Pirman.
Her enthusiasm for life and great humor will be forever missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life to be held at Green Island Country Club in The Swan Room
