Doris Felder Reeves of Atlanta, GA passed away February 9, 2022, at the age of 105. She was a blessing to family and friends and will be greatly missed. Doris was born in 1916 in Summit, MS where she graduated from high school and Southwest Mississippi Junior College. She married her childhood sweetheart, Howard F Reeves, and together they raised three daughters, living in various places in the US. After Howard passed away Doris helped raise her grandchildren, moving to Atlanta in 1980.
Doris was a devout Christian and lived her faith with generosity and compassion for others. She was an active member of Embry Hills United Methodist church and a volunteer at Dekalb General Medical Center. Doris played tennis until she was 90 years old, competing in ALTA and USTA. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and was an excellent player. She showed her love by cooking for family and friends, baking delicious cakes and cookies. An avid Braves fan, she was thrilled to see them win the World Series. Every summer, she made a pilgrimage to Felder’s Camp meeting in Summit, MS, a family reunion/religious revival her family has been a part of since 1843. The cemetery at Felder’s will be her final resting place.
Doris was a remarkable person, strong, smart, tenacious, compassionate, and an inspiration to those who knew her. She was blessed with good health, living independently in her home at 105.
She is predeceased by her husband, Howard F. Reeves; and her two daughters, Margaret Reeves and Cynthia Fletcher. She is survived by daughter Kathryn Adams; grandchildren, Karen Shibley, Frank Warren Fletcher III, Kathleen Anderson; and great grandchildren, Hana Shibley, Samantha Anderson, and Linda Fletcher.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11 AM at Embry Hills United Methodist Church, 3304 Henderson Mill Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341. Masks are required in the sanctuary.
