Mrs. Doris Jean Phillips, age 84, of Jonesboro, passed away March 12, 2022.
Doris was born in Fayetteville, Georgia on August 28, 1937, to the late Edgar and Kate Duke. As the daughter of sharecroppers, Doris and her sister Mary moved frequently for their parents’ farming work. At a young age, Doris worked in a beauty shop and then was employed by Playtex for time. In 1959, Doris was wed to Lewis Douglas Phillips. The couple had three daughters and Doris became a loving mother and homemaker. The couple had a beautiful marriage of 62 years. She lost her beloved Douglas just four months prior to her passing.
Doris was spunky and outgoing. She loved music and dancing. She particularly enjoyed when Douglas would take her out square dancing on Saturday nights, which they did regularly for many years. She wasn’t a fan of cooking but loved a nice dinner in a restaurant. Doris had a heart for children. After her children had grown and moved away, she would often babysit for others just to have children in her home. She also loved animals, particularly her late poodle Fifi. Doris was a born-again Christian and faithful in her prayers. She will be remembered as a wonderful and high spirited wife, mother, Granny and friend to all who knew her.
Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Douglas Phillips and daughter Vickie Phillips. She is survived by her daughters: Robin Phillips Castille and her husband Bob of Stockbridge and Karen Phillips of Jonesboro; grandchildren: Marlena Bowman, James Moulder and Felicia Adams; great-grandchildren: David Austin Lewis Bowman and Amber Walker Bowman; great-great-granddaughter: Ava Walker.
The Phillips family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Hwy 54 West, Fayetteville. Messages of condolence may be left at www.GeorgiaCremation.com.
