Dorothy Ann Copes of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 27, 2025. She was born August 22, 1935, to Wesley Pope and Una Pope. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, David Pope, and her sister, Doris Stewart.
Survivors include her daughters Traci Copes and Kelli Copes Caughey, her sons Michael Copes and David Copes, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She frequently shared fond memories of growing up on the bay of Point Clear/Fairhope, Alabama. At the young age of 9 years old, she began playing piano in church and continued throughout her life. She worked as a cosmetologist until she retired at 80 years old, touching the lives of everyone she met through her wit and kindness. A perfect day for her was eating fried oysters and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Known for her sense of humor and a nickname, “Sexy”, that hinted at her vibrant personality, Sexy had a way of making every moment sweeter. She lived with a quiet strength and a generous heart, leaving behind memories that will be treasured by all who were lucky enough to know her. Though she has left this world, her love remains.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Columbus Hospice of Georgia and Alabama, especially her nurse Jamie, for the exceptional care and love shown during her last few months.
Georgia Cremation – Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.
