Dr. Jane Tuggle King, age 92, of East Point, passed away October 31, 2019.
Dr. King was born in Tucker, GA on September 25, 1927. She attended Stone Mountain High school and soon after was wed to James Walter King. The couple had one son and one daughter. Dr. King spent many years as a homemaker, caring for her husband and children. Mr. King’s service in the United States Air Force brought about several moves for the family, including to Puerto Rico and Florida. The family eventually settled in East Point, GA in 1961. After her children had grown up and moved away, Dr. King began her 10 year career as a financial secretary for Dogwood Hills Church. She stayed on at this position for another 25 years after the church merged with Word of Faith Church in Lithia Springs. As an empty nester, Dr. King enrolled in college and graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Arts. She continued her studies and earned a doctorate degree in Theology from the Beacon Institute of Ministry. After many years of dedication to her church home, Dr. King retired at the age of 89.
Although reserved and a bit stern, Dr. King was also incredibly loving and giving. She was independent and set in her ways. Dr. King was a wonderful Mammie to her many grandchildren, whom she enjoyed spoiling very much. Her family savored her excellent country cooking. Dr. King’s passion in life was her artwork. She was a gifted painter who focused on oil paintings and chinaware. Her craft brought her great joy. As a young mother, Dr. King took art lessons. Her God-given talent quickly led her to the role of teacher herself. She even opened an art studio at her home where she gave weekly painting lessons. Her family will deeply cherish the beautiful artwork she left behind for many years to come.
Dr. King was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Walter King, brother George Tuggle, and beloved pet dog Daisy. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: George and Rachel King of Fayetteville; daughter: Joyce King of Ocala, FL; brother-in-law: Myron King and wife Connie; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several grandchildren-in-law.
The King family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Hwy 54 West, Fayetteville. Messages of condolence may be left at www.GeorgiaCremation.com.
