Elaine Marie (Cashman) Thornton of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the age 89. Born on January 19, 1937, in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of the late John Emmet Cashman and Loretta Hackett Cashman. Elaine married William (Bill) E. Thornton, in 1956, in Baldwin, NY. They lived in Wantagh NY, Marietta GA, and Goodyear AZ and Columbus, GA.
Elaine was a kind, thoughtful and loving person. She will be remembered for her love for flowers, playing poker with her family and her love for classic movies. She is survived by generations of family who carry her legacy forward.
Mother and mother-in-law to Veronica “Bonnie” Bowers (Gary), Susan Boyle (John), William “Bill” Thornton (Cindy), Linda Downey (Dennis), Elizabeth “Liz” Doering (Ed), John Thornton and Kim Marie Gray (Wes).
Grandmother to Jennifer Pagas; Jason Bowers, Laura Nielson; Fionna Boyle; John Boyle; Shavonne Brown (Lamont); Scott Thornton (Kelly), Travis Thornton (Jessica), Carter Thornton (Jennifer), Crystal Downey, Samantha Harden (Cole), Eddie Doering, Kyle Doering, Trey Thornton (Whitney), Austin Thornton, Elaina Gray, and TJ Gray.
Great grandmother to Sabrina Anthony, Jasmine Pagas, Trystin, Gavin and Easton Nielson, Demetrius III “Meechy”, Roman Brown, Keira and Maeve Thornton, Ellie Downey, and Wilder Thornton.
Aunt to Mark, Sean and Douglas Campbell, Christina Seawright, Ricky Conrad, Beverly Lukehart; Patty and Gary Suprenant and Gail Thornton.
Extended family is Denise Thornton and Lisa and Bob Bunting.
She also leaves behind her many loving and caring friends who are all saddened by her passing.
Future celebrations of life and funeral services on Long Island NY; dates to be determined.
Georgia Cremation-Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Cathy and I are so sorry to hear of the loss of your lovely mom! I think back to all the memories we had on Long Island many years ago. I’ll never forget the times we all had together growing up.
Aunt Elaine would always make me laugh as well as beat us all in any card game! She was always laughing and having a great time when we’d all get together.
