Elizabeth “Michelle” Burnham, 56, of Carrollton, GA, passed from this life on February 20, 2024. Michelle was born on May 25, 1967 at the Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She was raised by her parents, Dixwell and Laura Burnham. She grew up alongside her sister, Andrea in the West End of Atlanta, Decatur, and Stone Mountain areas.
Michelle was a student in the Dekalb County school system. She graduated from Margaret Harris Comprehensive School in Atlanta in 1989. Michelle was known as the “best laundry folder ever” in her role working in a hotel laundry through a training center for differently abled adults. She participated in Special Olympics for many years in track and field events when she was younger and bowling in her later years. She had many fun hobbies including, fishing, painting, and listening to country music. She was a lover of anything space! She enjoyed watching Star Wars and Star Trek movies.
She spent her days traveling with family and participating in activities at her assisted living home. Michelle participated in Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine Prom at SouthCrest church in Newnan in 2022 and 2023. She also participated in Night to Shine at Southern Hills, the Church at City Station in 2024, where she was attending with her sister and brother-in-law in the few months preceding her death.
Michelle had many special pet dogs over the years including, Heidi, Lady, and Scrappy. She was a loving, beautiful, Christ-like, stubborn, little lady, known to her family as their “Chelly Belly.” Her family is comforted in knowing that she is happy now with Jesus, the angels, and her parents.
Michelle was preceded in death by her parents; Dixwell T. Burnham and Laura L. Burnham. She is survived by her sister: E. Andrea Miller (Kyle) of Carrollton, GA; her nephews: Seth A. Pace (Estella) of Winston-Salem, NC; Andrew M. Pace (Nic) of Athens, GA; and great-nephews: Austin and Gabriel Pace, both of Winston-Salem, NC. She will be remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
Donations can be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, Georgia Special Olympics, and Night to Shine funds at SouthCrest Church in Newnan, and/or Southern Hills, the Church at City Station in Carrollton, GA in memoriam.
