Emma Modeste, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Emory Decatur Hospital. She was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on October 27, 1948, to Dorothy Modeste and Donald Charles.

Emma was a woman whose faith, love, and joyful spirit touched the lives of everyone who had the blessing of knowing her. Her relationship with the Lord was at the center of her life, and she carried her faith with her wherever she went. Her strength and refuge were found in her church family at Resurrection Fire Chapel International, where she worshiped and found comfort throughout her life.

Emma had a bright and uplifting personality that could light up any room. She was warm, loving, and deeply social, with a special gift for making people feel welcomed. Around her, strangers rarely remained strangers for long; she had a way of turning a simple conversation into a friendship and making everyone she encountered feel at home.

For more than 15 years, Emma devoted herself to caring for others as a dialysis technician. Her compassion and genuine concern for people were evident not only in her profession, but in the way she lived. Emma also had a special love and soft spot for children. Throughout her life, she opened her heart and home to dozens of children, fostering and nurturing them with love as if they were her own. She cared for each child providing them with comfort, guidance, and a sense of belonging. Caring for others was more than a profession for Emma, it was simply who she was. She had a beautiful heart for people and made everyone around her feel seen, valued, and cared for.

Emma also had a love for fashion and enjoyed expressing her colorful personality through her style. She brought that same vibrancy and joy to every part of her life. Whether surrounded by family, friends, or someone she had just met, Emma had a way of bringing warmth, laughter, and light everywhere she went.

Emma will be remembered most for her unwavering faith, loving heart, joyful spirit, and the many friendships she created throughout her lifetime. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Emma is survived by her children, Tarsha Darko, Aura Martin-Sealy, and Jevon Modeste, as well as her grandchildren, Erisha, Nia, Saied, Shawn, Shani, Kimoi, Zion, and Heaven. As well as her great-grandchildren, Se’Kaia and Juliana.
