Evelyn Kay Selby, 65, of Columbus, Ga. passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at her home.
Kay was born on December 24, 1952 in Richmond, Va. to Evelyn Byrd Selby and the late Warren Selby, Sr. The oldest of three children, Kay loved art, being outdoors, and sneaking out of the house to listen to her favorite local band – The Allman Brothers. After high school, she attended Auburn University and the University of South Carolina.
From working with young children with behavioral issues, to helping Soldiers transition after returning home from deployment, Kay loved people and devoted her life to giving back to others. She was a mother, a grandmother, a tireless friend to many, a fearless defender of the less fortunate, a voracious reader, a diehard Auburn football fan, and so much more.
Survivors include her daughters, Melanie (Craig Germano, Jr.) York of New York, N.Y. and Vanessa (Joshua Ray) Harris of Cullman, Ala.; mother, Evelyn Byrd Selby of Gray, Ga.; her beloved grandchildren, Anastasia Harris, Madalynn Harris, Skyler York-Harris, and Jasmine Harris; two siblings; her beloved dog, Zoey; and a host of family and friends.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, September 13 at The Infantry Chapel at Fort Benning, Building 101, 124 Sigerfoos Street, Fort Benning, Ga. 31905.
