Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Garnett H. McGinness, born June 5, 1941, (aka Dandy, Daddy, Uncle G., Papa GH, and Mac), entered glory on December 21, 2023, after an extended illness. He was at home surrounded by loved ones whilst being cared for by the staff of Symponia Hospice.
GH was preceded in death by his parents, G.L. McGinness and Nellie Parham, his sister Frances, brother Larry, his former wife Betty Sue McGinness, along with his dearest friends Frank and Jean Cape and many others.
He is survived by his caregiver/“wife” Anna Carroll, son Steve (Trish), daughters Laurel (Jerry), Jennifer (Richard), and Joyce, and his brother Robert (Cleta), as well as his granddaughters Mylee and Michella (Sara) and his grand dog Java Chip, along with step-grands and great-grands, and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends of all ages.
GH lived a full life. He served in the United States Navy, traveled the country, enjoyed his family, Atlanta Braves baseball, NASCAR racing, high school and college football (Go Georgia Bulldogs!) and fishing. When not watching sports, he enjoyed reading, sitting on the back porch to watch the deer in the woods and on the front porch loving the sunshine, admiring the flowers in their garden and watching the hummingbirds. He always made you smile and laugh, and kept you entertained with a variety of stories about life. GH loved his family. Those stories and the time together with him will be missed by all.
The family wants to acknowledge the staff at Symponia Hospice for their care, concern and love over the past 22 months; you all are part of our tribe now and will always be. A very special thank you goes to Sharon and Robin at Symponia. GH loved you as if you were his daughters; your care for him went beyond our expectations. We also want to thank Marie, Jeanie, Susan, Kendal and Tiffany, and others, for your concern and tenderness during this time. Please consider a donation in GH’s memory to Symponia Hospice or the hospice of your choice.
A celebration of life will be planned for spring 2024.

When he smiled, you couldn’t help but to smile back. His smile was contagious. Please accept my condolences. The love expressed by his family is a testament to his life and legacy.

I’m sorry I’m late with this condolence. I didn’t see this until now. GH was always ready with help, a quip, or a funny story. There was a group of us used to sit on Pat’s porch at the condos and “watch the grass grow”. Four of the six of us have now gone on. I’m sure GH is sitting with Pat, Virginia, and Elisabeth having a glass of wine and watching the grass grow.
