George Edward (Ed) Bagwell passed away at his home, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, on December 9th, 2023 after a short illness. He was born in Duluth, GA on June 6th, 1937, and grew up in Buford, GA but made his home in Brookhaven, GA for over 60 years before moving back to Buford in 2023. He had a long career as a barber, having been an apprentice in his father’s barbershop in the 1950s. He owned shops in Gwinnett, Dekalb, and Fulton counties over the years. He truly enjoyed meeting and getting to know his customers, who graciously tolerated his many jokes. He never fully retired until he became ill. He was also a poet and songwriter. He loved music, books, and animals. He also loved staying fit and working out at the YMCA and LA Fitness, where he made many friends
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Young Bagwell, children, Sharon Lee Benton (Bruce), Charles Edward Bagwell (Deborah), and Valerie Lynn McGreevy (Kevin), six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters, Leon Bagwell (Carolyn), Joyce Martin, Betty Clark and Robert (Bob) Bagwell (Claire). He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert M Bagwell and Essie Cash Bagwell, his beloved son, Jon Herbert Bagwell and an infant sister.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to I Care America, (formerly I Care Atlanta/My Brothers Keepers), https://www.mybrothers-keepers.org/ in his memory would be truly appreciated.
Georgia Cremation in Duluth assisted the family with arrangements.

To my first and last brother in law, we will miss you forever, but you left this earth a better place. You were a kind and generous man that loved your family and friends. Was always there for all of us whatever we needed. I heard you say many times how lucky you were to have Mary for your wife. (And we all agreed) You were gentle and caring with kids and animals and that shows a strong man. We can remember a silly joke and smile and think of you. Not a bad way to be remembered. Love to Mary and family, we will always be here for you.
Carol lyons says
Ed will always be missed. He was a man that loved his family above all else.
Hard working until the end.
Bad jokes, but a good man.
He lived a long life and now he is in a better place.
Miss you dear brother

Ed was my Father in law but was more like a Dad. He was always there for you if you needed anything! A hug, encouragement, a laugh. He was an amazing man who will be extremely missed. He was a one of a kind!
Love and miss you Ed
