Geraldine Sims-Essix was born in Miami, Florida on September 2, 1948, to the union of Larry D. Sims and Bernice T. Sims(deceased). She was the oldest of her 9 siblings. Her siblings are: Freddie Sims, Carolyn Lindsey, Verminteen Davis, Francine Sims, Larry D. Sims Jr., Claudia L. Johnson, Debby S. Minnis, and Renee Sweet. Geraldine accepted the Christ Lord at an early age and has never abandoned her relationship with Christ.
Geraldine attended Miami Carol City High School from 1964-1967. She worked as a clerical assistant at her high school and in the food service industry to help support herself and her younger siblings.
After graduating from high school, Geraldine married Albert H. Essix, Jr. They had two children, Albert Henry Essix III (1967) and Antoine Demetrius Essix (1968) before leaving Miami, FL to unite with her husband’s relatives in Fort Wayne, IN. After obtaining gainful employment with Magnavox, Geraldine would later have a third son, Solomon Essix, in 1971. After divorcing Albert Jr, in 1972, Geraldine found love again with Louis Mabin. In 1975, they would share a daughter, Tina Louise Essix(Mabin).
In Pursuit of happiness, Geraldine would later move to Flint, MI in 1977 with her four children as a single parent. The love for her children sparked a deep passion for developing the lives of others by pursuing a career in Early Education Development at Mott Community College. In 2004 she retired and moved to Georgia to be a doting full-time grandmother.
In memorial to Geraldine’s life and memory, she is survived by her four children; Albert(Amanda), Antoine(Michelle), Solomon, and Tina(Rodrick).
