Gertrude Ann Marks (Sue), 76 years of age of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away peacefully Monday morning, March 30, 2015. Sue was born February 21, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph Nigrin and Mildred Souvey Richards.
In June 1999 she married her high school sweetheart, Philip James Marks in Winchester, VA. After retiring, they purchased a motorhome so they could live the “snow-bird” lifestyle between Cortland, Ohio and Sebring, Florida. Years later, they purchased a permanent residence in the Tanglewood Resort Community located in Sebring, Florida.
Sue enjoyed spending time with the many friends and acquaintances she met in Sebring. She was a member of Tanglewood’s Sunshine Committee which gave her great pleasure by helping others in need. She loved to “take care” of others and was always quick to lend a hand. She enjoyed cooking and baking and often times gave away the fruits of her labor by sharing with others.
Sue loved to bake and relished the times to share family recipes. Some of her fondest memories included baking with her children and grandchildren. She was always at “home” in the kitchen. Additionally, Sue loved being a Grandmother, enjoyed putting puzzles together, being at the beach and singing in her Tanglewood Community Church choir. She volunteered several years at Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center in Sebring, Florida.
In November 2013 following a serious illness, Sue moved to the Lawrenceville, Georgia area with her son Dan and his children Nicholas and Lauren.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Mildred Souvey Richards; her fathers, Elmer Richards and Joseph Nigrin; her brothers, Joseph Nigrin II and James Richards. Sue leaves behind her husband, Philip James Marks of Warren, Ohio; two son’s, Dan Holbert of Lawrenceville, GA; William Holbert of York, PA and two step-daughters, Dianne Horvath of Newton Falls, OH and Melissa Hathaway of Levittsburg, OH. Additionally, Sue leaves behind numerous beloved grandchildren.
As Sue would say, this is not a good-bye to her family and friends; it is merely a “See ya-later”.
The family would like to request that any material donations / contributions be made on Sue’s behalf to the American Hospice Foundation at www.ahhospicefoundation.org or by mail to:
