August 18,2024, Gordon Dean Byrd, Sr peacefully walked into the arms of Jesus with his precious family holding his hands. Gordon was born December 8, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia to Lillian and Louis Byrd. Walter and Nellie Ivie brought Gordon home to raise as their own.

Gordon married the love of his life, Brenda Sue Meehan on June 15, 1974.Together they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary this past June. August 3, 1975, they welcomed Gordon “Dean” Byrd Jr into this world. Little sister, Brandi Suzanne Byrd came soon after on April 6,1977. Gordon is survived by his wife Brenda: children; Dean (Emanuele) and Brandi; Grandchildren; Madison (Daniel) Johnson, Mason and Morgan Gunnin; Great Grandchildren; Hadleigh Anne and Camden Johnson. Sisters; Celia (Sam) Bowen and Carolyn Chastain; an uncle who was more like a brother, Mike (Joyce) Rivers and Aunt Mary Byrd. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Nellie Ivie, Lillian Walker, and Louis Byrd. Sister, Debra Gibson. Nephews; Steve Morrow and Ronnie Chastain.

Gordon was an angel that walked the earth. He was such a caring and kind man who loved deeply, especially his family and friends. Gordon had a sense of humor that would have you in stitches. Gordon loved to laugh! He always had a one liner that landed at the perfect time. Gordon loved the beach and lake. He shared so many precious memories, with so many near the water. His one wish was to get his feet in the water one more time, especially the beach. Gordon could tear up the dance floor and passed that passion down to both of his kids. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, loved to dance with their Papa. Gordon was a hard worker and put his heart and soul into everything that he did. There are not enough words to describe what a wonderful man he was. He will be missed terribly.

Gordon was a man of God and a man of deep faith. Gordon truly meditated and studied God’s word. Gordon would sit and read for hours about the Lord and would want nothing more than to know that he will meet everyone he loves in heaven. If he had one wish, it would be that his family and friends have a personal relationship with God. The main thing Gordon wanted everyone to know, is that he was ready to go home and be with the Lord. Gordon was tired of the suffering, and he was extremely vocal about how much he loved his family, but he could not continue on like this. He wanted each one of his friends and family to know how much he loved them and those were his last requests, to make that known.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at One Church 2130 Redwine Road Fayetteville, Ga. 30215, by the cross next to the lake. The lake was a great love for Gordon, and it will be the best place to honor him. Please dress casually and comfortably for the service. Friends and family are welcome to stay for lunch and fellowship after the service.
